Play Facilitator

Duties include:

  • Interacting with Hands On! visitors of all ages
  • Assisting visitors to get the most out of their visit to Hands On!
  • Explaining the educational objectives of exhibits
  • Assisting visitors with the use of materials in an exhibit
  • Organizing and monitoring exhibits to ensure they are presentable and safe
  • Roaming the museum with educational carts or interactive activities
  • Leading Hands On! programs like Reading Time, Arts & Crafts, etc.
  • Reporting any part of an exhibit that is not working properly
  • Enforcing facility rules

Qualifications:

  • Enjoy being around children
  • Experience working with children through home, church, school, etc
  • Good verbal communication skills and the ability to meet and greet the public
  • A pleasing smile and a warm, friendly greeting to all who contact or enter Hands On!
  • General office experience (computer skills helpful, but not required)
  • Willingness to commit to dealing with everyone you come in contact with in a respectful and understanding manner
  • Ability to organize and multi-task
  • Willingness to do assigned tasks because it is in the best interest of Hands On!

Training:

  • 2 hour training completed to earn name tag
  • Yearly check-in and evaluation

 Time Commitment:

  • 2 hour commitment; hours can be flexible based on busy hours at the museum and volunteers needs

Dress: professional, comfortable, casual clothing (no slogans) with comfortable shoes

 Supervision:                                

  • Shared between the Operations Manager & Operations Assistant
